FIRST© LEGO© League introduces STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) to children ages 9-14 (varies by region) through fun, exciting hands-on learning.
Participants gain real-world problem-solving experiences through a guided, global robotics program using LEGO® technology, helping today’s students, families, and educators build a better future together.
In Newfoundland and Labrador, we host the annual provincial championships. Students from across the province come together to showcase their creations and ingenuity.
The FIRST LEGO League Challenge competition consists of four pillars. Prior to the competition, your team will build a robot using a LEGO SPIKE Prime robot kit and optional LEGO SPIKE Prime expansion set. Your objective is to use your robot to complete as many tasks as possible in 2.5 minutes on the competition table. As well, you you will prepare a “science fair” like project called the innovation project. At this competition, you compete in the robot game, and present your robot design and innovation project in a presentation to a panel of judges.
Demonstrate FIRST© Core Values in everything you do. Your team will be evaluated during the robot game and the judging session. Show how your team is inclusive and works together to solve issues. Celebrate by having fun in everything you do!
Your team will prepare a short presentation on your robot design, programs, and strategy. Showcase your design rational for your team's robot such as: how you iterated on your designs, what was your testing process of your code, and what were your challenges you faced while building.
Your team will have three 2.5 minute matches to complete as many missions as possible. These missions may require your robot to pull or push things, move objects around the board, bring objects to the home base and more.
Your team will prepare a live, engaging presentation to explain the work you have done on your innovation project. For your innovation project, you will identity and research a problem to solve, design a new solution improve an existing one, create a model or drawing of your design, and iterate on your solution by collecting feedback.
Our goal is to give every student in the province the opportunity to participate in STEM education. Cost is a major barrier for students across the province and we are committed to reducing costs and providing new and existing teams the resources they need to participate.
Every team in the province is required to pay a registration fee of $150 CAD. After paying this registration, Levitate Learning will provide you all the resources required for your team to participate in FIRST LEGO League in the province. See below for what you will be provided.
